“When we opened our second office and brought on more remote employees, video conferencing became really important since we didn’t want anyone to feel like they were on the fringe of the company. If you’re only emailing or messaging, you’re kind of shrouded in mist. Having the visual experience really helps build better relationships,” Renfro said.

Ever since their founding in 2011, Riskalyze has been on a mission to help people make the most of their investments by assessing tolerance for risk and then allocating funds accordingly. Word about their financial prowess has rapidly spread throughout the years, and as a result, the company has scaled up from about 10 employees in 2014 to nearly a hundred as of early 2016. To accommodate these new employees, Riskalyze expanded outside of their headquarters in Auburn, California to build an additional office in Atlanta.

Once Highfive devices were installed in each conference room — no cables needed — Renfro and his team started leveraging them right away.

This was especially true for the engineering team, which was split between three locations but required product planning and discussion meetings as well as team scrums on a daily basis. These meetings, while often only 5-10 minutes at a time, happened frequently and on the fly throughout the day, so the team couldn’t afford to be weighed down by a lengthy set-up process. It’s really helped us get to know candidates, and we look better to them when we’re not late to meetings because of technical difficulties,” Renfro said.
