Work From Home Reimagined #WFHighfive
A Message From Joe Manuele, Highfive CEO
As all of us are now sheltered in place and practicing social distancing to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, remote working has become our temporary new norm. Highfive is here to help you during this challenging time. Located on this page you’ll find updates on how we’re addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, plus provide you with the best customer support in the industry so you can focus on what’s most important for you and your business.
As you can imagine we’ve experienced a massive surge in usage. As a result, we’ve had several customers reach out to ask if Highfive is able to handle the extra load. The simple answer is, yes. That’s because unlike other web conferencing systems, Highfive was born in the cloud and runs on AWS in several continents. Because of this and our architecture, we have the ability to scale seamlessly, providing customers with service where and when they need it. Highfive’s usage model is domain-based, so our customers never have to worry about extra license costs as more and more users come online.
Security and Data Privacy
Highfive takes the security of our data and our customers’ data seriously. Since its inception, Highfive has been fully committed to running natively on WebRTC, an open standard for real-time communications that is built into all modern Web browsers. As the first vendor to build a video conferencing stack on WebRTC running on AWS’s hyperscale cloud, we rely on the AWS service as its infrastructure is safeguarded by some of the best security measures in the business. WebRTC uses DTLS-SRTP (Datagram Transport Layer Security – Secure Real-timeTransport Protocol) to encrypt data, This is better than vanilla SRTP encryption since the encryption keys are also negotiated in-band. With WebRTC, Highfive’s customers receive continuously improved service and security that is magnitudes of degrees greater than could be offered by any single company’s engineering and security teams.
Highfive also takes necessary actions and implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure that its services comply with applicable provisions of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation – EU 2016/679), which was adopted by the European Commission for the purpose of harmonizing data security and privacy laws among all member states in the European Union. To learn more about Highfive’s security, I recommend reading our positioning paper “Highfive Video Conferencing Security Position”, which you can also find under Helpful Articles.
Intelligent Meeting Security
Authenticated Users: Only authenticated users are allowed to initiate and record Highfive meetings. User authentication is achieved through single sign-on solutions (SSO) using SAML 2.0, Microsoft Office 365, Google G Suite, or email address verification. You and your authentication provider will have control over the level of verification required by a user. Techniques such as multi-factor authentication can be used to add an additional level of security.
Unauthenticated Users: Unauthenticated users can only access Highfive meetings if they have been given a valid meeting URL from an authenticated user. Furthermore, unauthenticated users are initially placed as a guest in a virtual waiting room and can only access the meeting if let in by an authenticated user. This prevents unknown people showing up in your meetings.
Our Support organization has taken the appropriate steps to ensure we remain online 24×5 (“business hours around the world”) for our valued customers.
